At Prairie Blossom School, we are happy to share how our elementary students are engaged in this year’s reading program. They feel interested and motivated to keep a daily reading log to see how many books they will have read by the end of June.

Students took inspiration from the illustrations of Canadian writer and illustrator Barbara Reid for an art project. Barbara uses plasticine, a type of modelling clay, to create relief images which are photographed for her books. Students chose an image from a Barbara Reid picture book, and then created their version of it.

Meadow Lane Colony School had a very successful Reading Olympics. Students had fun creating avatars of themselves to use on the Olympic podiums. The students quickly climbed up the podium, with some students having read for over 2000 minutes that month! As well as competing with Kelsey School students, Meadow Lane students also began competing with their teachers to see who our most prolific readers were. Our champion reader was Samara who read for over 86 hours!

Come into our classroom and saunter down the Yellow Brick Road. Our Grade 1 to 7 students are reading the Wonderful Wizard of Oz with Mrs. Meads. So far, we have learned about cyclone(tornado) safety & what the difference is between a cyclone and tornado. We even created our own Tornado in a Bottle! Colony Schools throughout the Interlake School Division worked together even though kept apart by Covid, to show respect and empathy for the loss of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Each school honored the children and their families by coloring a feather drawn by Michelle Stoney, a Gitxsan artist. Michelle had shared her drawing through different social media posts and asked that it could be used to demonstrate understanding of the loss. Schools colored a combined total… Read More

On Wednesday, March 17th we had a chance at some hands-on learning when Leo Wilzer from Star Brite popped in for an encore electrical workshop. His goal was to teach our eager students how to install a 3-way switch and to wire a transformer for a doorbell.
